Internal Equilibrium –
In our journey through life, we often seek happiness and security through relationships and external achievements. Yet, this can lead to vulnerability when faced with loss. The path to genuine self-fulfilment requires a deeper understanding of our attachments and a shift towards inner resilience.
The Fundamental Principle of Attachment
The fundamental principle underlying grieving and the experience of loss is the presence of attachment, coupled with our reluctance to accept the impermanent nature of all relationships.
Introspecting on Our Attachments
To begin this process of inquiry, we must introspect on our attachments, understanding the underlying emotional needs they fulfil. First, we need to ask ourselves the questions: “what emotions would arise if these attachments were removed?” “What internal needs do they serve?” “How can we achieve internal equilibrium to decrease our dependency on external things and individuals?”
The Pitfall of External Validation
The more we rely on external sources for fulfilment, the more susceptible we become to fear and vulnerability. It’s essential to question “why we feel a sense of emptiness within ourselves that drives us to seek validation through attachments and dependencies on others?” By understanding our internal emptiness, we can work towards finding genuine self-fulfilment and reducing our reliance on external factors.
Shifting from Seeking to Giving Love
As we explore our inner selves, it is important to reflect on where we seek love rather than give it. Embracing a more loving nature diminishes our susceptibility to sorrow and dependency on external attachments. By releasing negativity and embracing our intrinsic greatness, we cultivate joy from giving and loving.
Cultivating Internal Contentment
When happiness comes from within, external losses have no power over us. When our internal source of contentment is nurtured, external circumstances hold less power over our emotional well-being.
A Path to Lasting Peace
By consistently releasing negative emotions, we can ease current suffering and proactively prevent future pain. Trust replaces fear, bringing about a deep sense of contentment. Shielding ourselves from the sorrow of loss happens when we shift reliance from the limited self (the ego) to the infinite Self (the Divine essence within). Rather than relying on our fleeting selves, we seek security in the everlasting Self.
Out of Hiding
Now that I finally stepped out of hiding,
my courage is emerging from the murky waters of fear.
Now that I released and suspended my judgments
in the mist, my life is free to embrace my soul.
Now that I finally let go of what I assumed
was significant, I’m amazed by miracles
appearing at every step of the way.
How we got here is irrelevant
and where we are heading to is simply
something for the mind to marvel at.
I will greet you there, in the mansion
that adversity opens—the miraculous
opening, the truth of who we are.
This journey towards genuine self-fulfilment is not about abandoning connections but about fostering an inner strength that transforms our experience of life. By embracing impermanence and nurturing our inner divinity, we find a peace that no external loss can shake.
