Compassion For All –
We centre our focus on love and compassion as the foundation for creating unity in a fragmented world.
Engaging with Adversaries
While it’s important to stand firm for our beliefs and advocate for justice, we must also remember that those who oppose us are part of our community. We need to find ways to coexist peacefully. To create an all-inclusive society, we must envision a future that includes everyone, even our fiercest adversaries. You might have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with a family member, a skeptical teenager, or a neighbour. What happens if we leave them alone? Seclusion can foster extremism. Engaging in deep listening requires relinquishing control. The information you are about to receive may profoundly affect you.
The Power of Deep Listening
This often involves attentive listening over time and building relationships. Humans tend to reflect each other’s emotions, so if you approach with hostility, they’ll respond in a similar fashion. However, if you approach with genuine curiosity, seeking to understand beyond the surface-level expression, you’ll uncover the individual’s story and recognise their pain, grief, and anger. Even if their opinions differ from your own, it is clear that their actions are rooted in hurt feelings, leading to behaviour driven by fear, insecurity, or fury. While this doesn’t make them any less of a threat, recognising their pain diminishes their hold over us. This awareness prompts us to consider: How will we integrate this insight into our future actions?
Transformative Love as Collective Practice
We encourage individuals to embrace both their own wounds and those of their adversaries within a space where one can envision outcomes, or relationships that include everyone in our circle of compassion, even those that are opposed to us. Such an effort as this transformative love is not about the self-sacrifice of one person, but rather a collective practice.
Your Role in Transformative Love
When inviting individuals to engage in transformative love, we often ask, what part do you play in this phase of your life? Whatever path you decide on, it can serve as an essential expression of love, of transformative love. If each of us fulfils his or her role, then together, we are nurturing the social change that is so critically needed.
Towards Wholeness and Integration
To return to a kind of wholeness, where the way we express love influences our actions in the world, and our actions, in turn, enhance our capacity to love, is a profound concept. This idea speaks of an integrated approach to life, where emotional and practical aspects are not separate but interwoven. This holistic approach encourages us to see love not just as a feeling, but as a guiding principle that informs our interactions and decisions, ultimately leading to a richer, more interconnected existence.
Lift the Veils
The soul is not a storehouse
with mirrors where we go back
to assure ourselves
that we are alive. The soul is a salon
with bay windows and many couches to sit on,
so friends can show up, glance out,
and talk about what they perceive. Not a castle where we show off and
deny others what they understand
in order to share our beliefs.More of a veranda with hummingbird feeders
and the sweet smell of cookies and freshly brewed tea,
where we allow ourselves to be genuine and vulnerable.Lift the veils! Let the fresh
air in! Steep the tea!
